WebDec 3, 2016 · Romeo blocks have jackscrew cross-bolted main caps. Windsor blocks have dowel pin cross-bolted main caps. Romeo engines have primarily six-bolt flywheel/flexplate flanges. Windsor engines have eight-bolt flywheel/flexplate flanges. Oil filter/cooling neck types vary depending on vehicle type. Timing cover depends on vehicle type. WebOct 8, 2014 · The 8th position, W = Romeo, 6= Windsor. On the outside of motor, the cam cover; 11 bolts = Romeo, 13 bolts = Windsor. Romeo only, bottom of block has 'jack screws' on outside to lock main bearing caps. Windsor does not have them. There are a lot of differences in the heads and elsewhere internally. Good luck. Intakes, timing cover, oil pans, and just about everything that bolts to the long block is the same.

" From 1999-2004 some of the Mustangs GT's used engines from the Windsor plant. Most were Romeo's. The easiest way to tell is to count the valve cover bolts. The Romeo's have 13 and the Windsors have 11.

Mustangs went to PI heads in 99 but some vehicles including some of the trucks did not until a few years later. The internals, including the crank are no different strenght wise. 01+ romeo motors had less dish pistons, which helped increase the compression ratio some (hence why 01+ 2v's dyno slightly higher stock).
